MICROCHIPPING
You Can Go Home Again – If You’re a Dog or Cat
The loss of a beloved dog or cat can be devastating to its owner, yet every year hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats go missing in this country. The Providence Animal Rescue League is pleased to announce our participation in the HomeAgain dog microchipping program.
All dogs and cats should have some form of identification, even if they are indoor animals. Tags and tattoos can be effective in returning a pet to its owner, but microchips have proven to be the most successful. HomeAgain is an advanced pet identification and retrieval system; the insertion procedure is simple and similar to administering a vaccine. The microchip comes preloaded in a sterile applicator and is injected under the skin between the shoulder blades, where it remains for the life of the pet. The chip will not fall off, get lost or be rendered ineffective.
Once the pet is microchipped, it is enrolled with the HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service. HomeAgain maintains a national database and is available 24-hours daily, 365 days a year. When a lost pet is found, it can be scanned at an animal shelter or the clinic of a participating veterinarian. The animal’s identification number is called into HomeAgain (1-866-PET-ID24), and the pet owner is notified immediately.
Dog and cat adoptions will cost $90.00 and Puppies and Kittens (under 6 months) will cost $125.00. In addition to microchipping, this adoption fee includes spaying or neutering, deworming, and rabies and distemper shots.
The Providence Animal Rescue League is a private 501 (c) 3 organization serving Providence and the state of Rhode Island. The League’s mission is to provide for the rescue and relief of suffering of homeless animals and perform charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals. |
